THE TEARS OF A CLOWN Single

Establishing a tradition of painting venerable rock and soul classics with a new palette of stampeding drums, snarling vocals and scintillating guitars, The Doughboys opted this time to pay homage to one of the truly great Motown artists of all time – Smokey Robinson – with their party-hearty rendition of the consummate Miracles’ tune, The Tears of a Clown, written by Smokey, Stevie Wonder and Hank Cosby.

Last summer’s outing – the Joe South classic Yo Yo originally popularized by The Osmond Brothers, garnered The Doughboys yet another “Coolest Song In The World” on Little Steven’s Underground Garage – their sixth song to be so honored. Little Steven named their third album Shakin’ Our Souls his favorite for all of 2012.

The Doughboys are releasing The Tears of a Clown as a download-only single in advance of their fourth studio album, which they’re working on as this is written, with an eye toward a Fall 2014 street date.

YO YO Single

The Doughboys knock another one out of the park with their new single Yo Yo, the Joe South song popularized by (believe it or not) The Osmond Brothers back in ’71. The Doughboys take the song in a completely new direction, turning The Osmonds’ pop ditty into an exhilarating garage rock/Motown-inspired rave-up!

They’ve done this before – their rockin’ cover of Route 66 and exciting rendition of The Moody Blues’ chestnut Tuesday Afternoon received widespread airplay and downloads.

The Doughboys are fresh off the worldwide acclaim accorded their third studio effort Shakin’ Our Souls, which Little Steven Van Zandt proclaimed his favorite album of 2012. It produced a “Coolest Song In The World” on the Sirius/XM Underground Garage channel, It’s A Crying Shame, with the entire disc receiving heavy rotation.

The Doughboys are back in the studio, working on their next album, while also contributing their inimitable rock’n’roll chops to Life Out Loud, the new Bongo Boy Records release by Paul Revere & The Raiders frontman, Mark Lindsay.
